Ichikawa Suminosuke was a Japanese Kabuki actor and actor born in the Miyazu clan of Tango Province. He is sometimes referred to as Ichikawa Tomiyuki, and his real name is Okumura Sukichi. His old stage names are Nakamura Umetaro and Nakamura Rokusho. His death date is unknown.
In 1867, when he was 7 years old, he entered the apprenticeship of Kabuki actor Nakamura Kangyoku and had his stage debut as a child in the Osaka Asahi performance “Kanjincho” under the name of the second generation Nakamura Umetaro.
In 1877, at the age of 17, he moved to the apprenticeship of Nakamura Sennoboru and renamed himself. He later joined the Ichikawa Yaozou Ichiza. According to the “Kabuki People’s Encyclopedia” (Nichigai Associates) published in 1988, he called himself the third generation Ichikawa Tosumi Ichikawa, but there is no separate document and details are unknown.
After appearing on the stage of Shinkyogoku Higashimukaiza in Shinkyogoku, Chukyo-ku, Kyoto Prefecture, and Daikokuza in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, he belonged to Yokota Shokai from September 1911. Since joining the Onoe Matsunosuke faction, he has been active mainly as an old man, mainly in movies starring Onoe Matsunosuke himself. Later, he belonged to Nikki Kyoto Studio and appeared in the movie “Mikazuki Jirokichi” directed by Makino Shozo.
He never appeared in other than silent films.
