How complicated and contradictory a person´s life is! So is the life of Kim Soo Nak, which the documentary “Comfort” presents. Kim Soo Nak had been forced into a “comfort woman” by the Japanese Imperial Army and lived a miserable life. After liberation, she lived in the prostitute quarters to survive, did sex business in the US military camp town, and peddled goods from the US military. Director Emmanuel Moon Chil Park has a deep relationship with the JEONJU IFF and presents us the pictorial records of a character´s life as it is, instead of glamorizing and talking up it. The film stands out for delicate directing, by reading aloud the testimony of Kim Soo Nak in the local dialect and using various media such as animations and videos from archive.
